Welcome to Hancock CDC, doing business as hecmcounselor! We are a non-profit, housing organization focused on providing HECM or reverse mortgage counseling to senior citizens. 

Homeowners aged 62 and over interested in the federally-insured reverse mortgage program, called the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM), are required to get counseling from an independent third party.  This is what we do.

We provide the counseling in a very friendly and informative manner.  As we like to say, “We have no nickel in your quarter!” Our job is not to tell you what to do, our job is to make sure you have the information you need so that you understand what you’re doing.

All counselors are required to provide reading materials before the counseling. We provide the materials online! Please click the “Reading Materials/Q & A” to the left to download the reading materials to help you get a better understanding of how the reverse mortgage works.

If you are nervous about the process, don’t be! Counseling is required because reverse mortgages can sometimes be difficult to understand. Once you understand reverse mortgages (trust us, it’s not that hard!), we are confident that you will be much more comfortable with your decisions. Again, welcome and you are in good hands with us.
